The AIMS-ESMT Industry Immersion Program is a partnership between the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) and the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) Berlin which aims to prepare mathematically-trained graduates for careers in business or industry. The program is open to AIMS alumni https://www.nexteinstein.org/aims-esmt-industry-immersion-program/
However this year, a small number of places are available for non-AIMS candidates, subject to eligibility conditions.
Eligible candidates are South African citizens who hold at least a Master’s degree in mathematics or a mathematics-related field and who have an interest in going into business or industry. (Candidates can hold degrees in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science or other mathematics-related areas.)
The course is residential with accommodation and meals provided at AIMS. Candidates must be available for the entire series of course lectures at AIMS.
Phase I: 24 June – 3 August 2019
The first phase of the course consists of course lectures and runs over 6 weeks from 24 June 2019, at AIMS South Africa in Muizenberg. Courses are taught by lecturers from ESMT Berlin, as well as by staff from AIMS and Stellenbosch University. Courses include subjects such as data analytics in business for mathematicians, organisational behaviour, strategy and finance and accounting.
In a second phase of the program, candidates might take up 3-month internships with companies, to apply skills gained in the course phase in an industry setting. Internships are agreed between the candidate and company and the offer of an internship place is not guaranteed.
Candidates residing outside of Cape Town will also be provided with a contribution to transport to attend the course, if they reside elsewhere in South Africa.
Interested candidates can write to email@example.com for information on how to apply.
