
Prof. Holgate is a full professor and currently the Head of the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at the University of the Western Cape. His principal research interest is in category theory and topology, pursuing a deeper categorical analysis and understanding of methods and constructions in general topology. His most recent research has been in closure operators and neighbourhood operators on categories as well so-called “pointfree topology” or frame/locale theory. He holds a B3 rating from the South African NRF. He also has a strong interest in undergraduate mathematics education and is on the international steering committee for the DELTA conference series on the teaching and learning of undergraduate mathematics and statistics. In 2011 he was a runner up in the HEQC/HELTASA National Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. He has been a member of the AIMS Council since June 2018. |
